An Assessment of the Importance of the Residual Flexibility of Neglected Modes in the Dynamical Analysis of Deformable Aircraft

چکیده
SUMMARY The mathematical framework for a unified approach to the dynamical problems of deformable aircraft, set up by Taylor in his contribution to R & M 3776, is used as the basis for a limited numerical investigation of the usefulness of the residual flexibility concept in truncated modal analyses. A finite-element model of a supersonic transport aircraft of slender-delta configuration is the subject of stability and response calculations, in which various representations of the structural deformability are used. These comprise up to four natural modes both with and without the residual flexibility of the remaining modes. It is concluded that the addition of residual flexibility to a structural model which comprises only one or two modes significantly improves the accuracy of estimates of low-frequency characteristics. However, if a single model is to be used in an integrated approach to the aeroelastic problems of an aircraft, it must incorporate a fairly large number of modes in order to deal with the higher-frequency problems. In these circumstances the residual flexibility concept would seem to have little practical value.

An analysis was conducted to examine the market visibility of small aircraft as a transportation mode in competition with automobile and scheduled commercial air travel by estimating the pool of users that would potentially switch on-demand air travel due to cost/time saving. These new aircraft greatly increase the practicality of regional aircraft as a transportation mode that can avoid the co...
متن کاملDynamical stability of cantilevered pipe conveying fluid in the presence of linear dynamic vibration absorber
When the velocity of fluid flow in a cantilevered pipe is successively increased, the system may become unstable and flutter instability would occur at a critical flow velocity. This paper is concerned with exploring the dynamical stability of a cantilevered fluid-conveying pipe with an additional linear dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) attachment. It is endeavoured to show that the stability o...
متن کاملExtension Ability of Reduced Order Model of Unsteady Incompressible Flows Using a Combination of POD and Fourier Modes
In this article, an improved reduced order modelling approach, based on the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method, is presented. After projecting the governing equations of flow dynamics along the POD modes, a dynamical system was obtained. Normally, the classical reduced order models do not predict accurate time variations of flow variables due to some reasons. The response of the dynam...

The main goal of this article is to implement the MSG-3 process in structure field for an SSI component of b747 aircraft. This process is expected toincrease the ease of aircraft maintenance and its safety level. MSG-3 logic took a top-down or consequence of failure approachmeaning that MSG-3 reduces the maintenance cost and upgrades safety. Moreover, it cansignificantly help saving thetime and...
